Responsibilities
- Measure and configure pipe routes based on project specifications
- Gather tools and materials required for installation
- Dig trenches using both hand tools and machine-operated equipment
- Identify existing piping systems using magnetic or radio indicators
- Remove outdated or damaged piping
- Lay pipe into trenches, install pipe spacers, and align properly
- Seal pipe joints using cement glue and other bonding techniques
- Install auxiliary lines and ensure complete system functionality
- Backfill and compact trenches to secure piping and restore site
- Follow safety guidelines and coordinate effectively with supervisors and crew
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience as a pipe layer in the construction industry preferred
- Strong understanding of pipe fitting techniques and system layouts
- Familiarity with sewer, storm drain, and water main systems
- Ability to operate trenching equipment and read blueprints and city maps
- Strong physical fitness and capability to lift heavy materials
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied and sometimes harsh conditions
- Clear and respectful communication with team members
